Water Safety Awards by Swim England
A must for any child learning to swim!
The Water Safety Awards by Swim England are a fantastic way for children who are taking part in the core Learn to Swim Stages 1-7 to be rewarded as they learn!
Developed in partnership with the RNLI and RLSS UK, the Awards have a number of skills and outcomes that must be completed before a child is awarded by their swimming teacher.
Overall, the three Water Safety Awards cover water danger awareness, self-rescue techniques, and vital survival skills.
We’ve put some more information on each Award below:
Water Safety 1 Award
Here, your child will learn basic water safety awareness and survival techniques like floating, treading water, and submerging and resurfacing (without goggles).
Water Safety 2 Award
With key water safety messages from the RNLI and RLSS UK, this is where your child will learn personal survival techniques and how to swim in clothes. Learning to do so teaches children what to do and how to save themselves if they ever accidentally fall into water fully-clothed.
Water Safety 3 Award
For the final Award, your child will fully understand how to perform safe self-rescue in different open and pool-based water situations.

Swim England’s page on the Water Safety Awards go into more detail about each Award. You can visit the page here.
We know that there are many opportunities that arise from swimming, so after working through the Water Safety Awards, the Rookie Lifeguard Awards could be a great next step!
Our swimming lessons follow Swim England’s Learn to Swim Framework (Stages 1-7) to deliver lessons that help your child stay safe as they enjoy the water. You can find out more about our lessons below.
