Sue's story

Osteopenia is a condition that weakens the bones, so resistance and weight-bearing exercises are high on Sue’s list to preserve her bone density.

Swimming and workout classes, such as Pilates and Tae Bo, were once a routine part of Sue’s exercise regime. But her neck pain over the last couple of years has meant that Sue has had to approach exercise with a lower intensity.

Taking things more carefully only frustrated Sue, and she stopped exercising after a recent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury took a year to heal.

Dealing with early menopause symptoms and a recent diagnosis of an osteopenic spine now means Sue must get back into a regular exercise routine – which is her goal this year.

Osteopenia is a condition that weakens the bones, so resistance and weight-bearing exercises are high on Sue’s list to preserve her bone density.

A schedule that includes moderate exercise can help to lower the risk of stress, anxiety, and depression too, all of which can show up during and beyond menopause. Socialising with others and having a sense of belonging at Sue’s local centre will only boost this further.

Sue isn’t wasting anytime on getting started with her goals, she already started getting out for daily, purposeful walks towards the end of 2023 so that by time the new year came around, she’d be ready to work steadily throughout 2024 to reform her habits and see results!
