Sonia's story
Sonia enjoyed visiting Ferndown Leisure Centre to keep active, however once her journey through menopause began, she was left with a lack of motivation.
Sonia used to be a member at Ferndown Leisure Centre. She regularly enjoyed visiting to keep active, however once her journey through menopause began, she was left with a lack of motivation.
As a woman in her mid-50s, Sonia can relate to those experiencing perimenopause and menopause symptoms. These often include changes in mood, hot flushes, fatigue and aches and pains. In Sonia’s experience, she was left feeling hungry and experiencing a lack of motivation.
She tried to keep as active as she could by attending the gym, however the lack of sleep, due to waking up having hot flushes, and then trouble going back to sleep, left her struggling to remain interested.
With a lack of drive and energy, Sonia stopped attending the centre. Gradually, this decrease in activity over a 2-year period led to her gaining 30lbs in weight.
Sonia leads a busy life, working two jobs: one in a day centre for people with Dementia and another at a local hospital as a Therapy Technician. She tries hard to use her spare time in the evenings and at the weekends to keep active, but feels she just needs a push in the right direction.
“I am willing to try again to lose the weight, build up my fitness, attempt to complete a Group Cycling session and try new classes”, she says, “I would like to try Yoga and BODYBALANCE.”
Therefore, her goal for 2024 was to get back into fitness again and lose the 30lbs she gained.
