Ria's story

"By the end of 2024, I want to look back and be in shock from how much I've done to be the new me.”

“I’ll start tomorrow”. “Monday is a fresh start”.

These are sentences Ria feels she’s been saying to herself every day since she gave birth to her youngest child; that she’ll start becoming healthier and get herself into gear.

Growing up, Ria loved joining in on after school clubs like football, rugby, and athletics. “I was always classed as the tomboy at school.” she says. But after spending the last six years bringing up her little ones, and following spouts of depression and anxiety, jumping back into sports hasn’t come easily to Ria. “The older I got, the more insecure I started to feel about my body and being around people.” she says.

Now that her children are in full time education, Ria has had some time to think about her 2024 goals – and commit to them. “Getting myself into that mindset, having the help I need and setting and achieving goals…that's what I want to do in 2024 and by the end of it, look back and be in shock from how much I've done to be the new me.”

Determined to get back into leading a healthier lifestyle, she wants to try workout classes, swimming, going to the gym, getting into badminton, and to start running!

“To even run 2km consistently without stopping would be amazing…mainly I just want to build a healthy body again, strengthen my core and body seeing as having children and not looking after myself has done some damage.” Ria says.

Achieving goals can take a village, and in Ria’s case, community could be a missing puzzle piece that keeps Ria motivated. “I just know that if I have the push, the drive and the gym behind me, I could actually achieve my goals of becoming fitter, lose weight and generally have body confidence.”
