Len's story
Len's love for football led him to become a referee so that he can still be involved in the sport he enjoys.
The Dolphin has been a part of Len’s life for many years. As a football fan, he used to play 5 a side football there for 20 years, and the sport soon became a part of his social routine when he started playing alongside friends when the sports hall at the centre first opened.
Len played with a lot of teammates who were in their 30s and 40s, and as time went on and people started getting into their 50s, 60s, and even 70s, it took a toll on their bodies and fitness levels, so the games stopped.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the end of football for Len. His love for it led him to become a referee so that he can still be involved in the sport he enjoys, while retaining some form of fitness.
He’s now more open minded than ever to trying out other sports and wants to get involved ahead of his 64th birthday this year, not just for himself, but so that his wife can see the difference too!
“Getting older but already losing my hair. Birthday greetings but no bottle of wine! I want my wife to still meet me and greet me when I'm 64...but I want her to see a more fit and healthier husband.” Len says.
Len has his eyes on our table tennis sessions, workout classes, and wants to get back to the gym – a place he’s rarely stepped into over the last 30 years.
He will need a push as he’s currently fighting off a winter bug, but Len can’t wait to start his new exercise adventure. He’s living proof that you can try something new at any stage in your life, age is just a number!
