Kellie's story
“I’m really looking forward to attending the Group Cycling classes, but most of all getting back to lane swimming at Rotherham Leisure Complex”.
Kellie has always been an enthusiast for physical fitness, incorporating exercise seamlessly into her daily routine, considering it not just a duty, but a passion! Her commitment to maintaining an active lifestyle has led her to make lasting friendships through various gym activities. She has participated in half-marathons, swimathons, and charity walks, consistently striving to surpass her daily step target of 15K.
Sadly, the past 6 months have been difficult for Kellie, where a shoulder injury and the onset of menopause have posed challenges to both her physical and mental health. She has grappled with weight gain, diminished confidence, and limited gym attendance due to her shoulder injury. Coping with the menopausal symptoms, such as aching joints, fatigue, mood swings, forgetfulness, and lack of motivation, has also proven to be a significant challenge.
Despite these setbacks, Kellie remains determined to rediscover herself in 2024 and says, “I’m really looking forward to attending the Group Cycling and the Body Pump/Combat classes, but most of all getting back to lane swimming at Rotherham Leisure Complex”.
Acknowledging the inevitable changes accompanying the menopausal phase, she strives to be kinder to herself and embrace the journey. With her 50th birthday looming, Kellie sees it as an opportunity to focus on her fitness goals. While menopause has posed challenges, she says she has it “under control” and is redirecting her efforts towards increasing strength, exploring various cardio classes, and maintaining a balance between the two, as well as improving her nutritional intake to support and optimise this further.
Fully committed to her aspirations, Kellie believes achieving these fitness goals in 2024 will significantly enhance her overall health and well-being.
