Gun Woo's story

2023 marked five years since Gun-Woo finished his final cycle of chemotherapy and officially became cancer-free!

Beating cancer was a fantastic time in Gun-Woo’s life, but chemotherapy treatment also meant that his health was at its weakest. Some side effects that chemotherapy can have on people are memory problems, difficulty sleeping, anaemia, and an increased risk of infection.

Following his experience with cancer and chemotherapy, Gun-Woo was determined to improve his health and fitness levels. He looked to the Malden Centre for help and hasn’t looked back since! Over the last five years, the centre has been a place that has helped Gun-Woo become fitter and stronger than ever.

Your lifestyle can affect how well your body protects you from disease and illness, so it had never been more important to build regular exercise into his routine. As well as helping to reduce stress and increase better quality sleep, regular exercise (just 30 minutes a day) can help give your body the best fighting chance of being healthy.

Fast forward to now, and his focus continues to be strength. After already achieving his goal on the bench press, Gun-Woo has long held a different objective, to hit a 500kg combined weight total from a deadlift, a squat, and on the bench press.

“I used to think of it as a pipe dream, but I am now confident that I can do it. 2024 will be the year that I make it happen!” Gun-Woo says.
