Dan's story
When it comes to controlling his anxiety, Dan says that swimming has “come next to none as a pillar of support.”
For the past five years, Dan has been tackling anxiety and has noticed it affecting his personal and professional life.
He has seen many people like himself struggle with their mental health, so this year he wants to do something about it. Dan has experienced first-hand the positive impact that exercise can have on wellbeing, so he wants to make mental and physical health a priority. “Not to look good, not to impress - but so that I can feel like myself again. I’m ready to put the work in and am willing to train consistently.” he says.
When it comes to controlling his anxiety, Dan says that swimming has “come next to none as a pillar of support.”, making him keen to return to the water.
Swimming soothes the mind. The low-impact, rhythmic nature of swimming calms both the mind and body. The sound of water and repetitive motion of can be soothing and meditative, making it a great activity when it comes to reducing anxiety levels. Attending regular swimming sessions can also provide a sense of community and social connection which are crucial for overall mental wellbeing.
Another of his goals for 2024 is to complete a triathlon, something he looks forward to training every day for. When Dan isn’t working towards that, he wants to focus on cardio, start weightlifting, and get involved in our yoga and BodyBalance classes.
Visiting his local centre means Dan wouldn’t just be able to achieve his physical goals, but it would help him on his journey of self-discovery.
