Andrew's story
Pursuing a healthier lifestyle isn’t just something Andrew wants for himself; he also hopes he will act as a role model and inspire his teenage son to follow in his footsteps!
Having previously worked in the care industry, Andrew spent a lot of time on his feet working long shifts and cycling 20 miles a day to and from work. However, a career change towards becoming a car salesman 2 years ago left him inevitably spending a lot of time sitting behind a desk.
The switch to sedentary work, alongside watching lots of TV, sleep, and an infrequent social life has led to an inactive lifestyle for Andrew. He says, “I have put on a few stone more than I would like” and has “a few more wobbly parts” of his body than he feels comfortable with. This has lowered his self-esteem significantly.
We all know that pursuing more positive habits and exercising regularly can aid both our physical and mental wellbeing, and Andrew aims to do exactly that. In addition to getting to his ideal weight and giving his stamina a boost, Andrew wants to improve his outlook for the future.
Exercise improves mood, stimulates sleep, and helps to manage stress and anxiety. Moving in any way that’s enjoyable is necessary when it comes to releasing energy, boosting our immune system, and improving our outlook on life.
Pursuing a healthier lifestyle isn’t just something Andrew wants for himself; he also hopes he will act as a role model and inspire his teenage son to follow in his footsteps! “I hope to encourage my teenage son to consider exercise alongside his inactive recreational activities.” he says.
“He has started showing interest in Airsoft so that may be something I will join in with at some point.”
Many of us look at exercise as something to do alone, but there are benefits that can come from having an exercise buddy. Teaming up with a friend, partner, or even a relative as Andrew has suggested, is a great way to keep fit and have fun.
You’re more likely to commit to exercise, succeed in your goal, and work harder as you exercise with somebody else. Workout classes are also a great place to start for those wanting to meet new people.
