Prudhoe Waterworld Pool Closure

Prudhoe Waterworld swimming pool is closing from 14th October for refurbishment works, funded by Northumberland County Council . Read the Northumberland County Council press release here.

Why is the pool closing?

The pool and wet changing area will be closed for refurbishment. These will include a brand new wet changing area which will incorporate new showers, toilets, changing cubicles and lockers as well as a vanity area and lighting. The exit from the water flume will be improved and a new external ramp will be installed to improve accessibility to the centre. Read more on the Northumberland County Council website

How long is the pool closing for?

The works are due to commence on the 14th October 2024 with the view to re-open in spring 2025. We will keep this web page updated with any developments and will contact you via email when Prudhoe Waterworld is due to re-open. We can't wait to welcome you back to your newly refurbished facility in 2025.

Swimming lesson FAQs

Will I still be charged whilst the pool is closed at Prudhoe?

If you or your child(ren) take part in swimming lessons, we will automatically freeze your direct debit but please contact us to tell us if you would like to re-locate your child’s swim lessons to Ponteland or Wentworth Leisure Centre.

I would like to continue lessons with Places Leisure whilst the pool at Prudhoe Waterworld is closed, what do I need to do?

I would like to move my child’s lesson. Will their teacher and lesson time stay the same?

We will do our best to work with you to find a session date that meets your needs. We are running extra sessions to accommodate the demand at Ponteland and Wentworth Leisure Centres, which will include Sunday sessions. We may not be able to offer you the same teacher, session day, or time that you currently attend at Prudhoe.

Can my child still use their free swimming benefit?

Yes - at our 8 other Places Leisure sites located within Northumberland if you continue with your swimming lessons.

Will I be notified when Prudhoe Waterworld is due to re-open?

Yes, we will contact you via email to notify you when Prudhoe is due to re-open, and lessons will resume. We can’t wait to welcome you back to your newly refurbished facility.

Membership FAQs

Will I still get charged during the pool closure?

Yes, your direct debit will be collected as normal each month.

What facilities can I access as part of my membership during the pool closure at Prudhoe Waterworld?

Premium members: You will still have access to the Gym and classes at Prudhoe Waterworld, plus facilities at the other sites within the Northumberland contract.

Swim only members: You will have access to the 8 other pools located within the Northumberland contract.

Do I have an option to freeze my direct debit during the closure?

Yes, complete the form here to freeze your direct debit throughout the duration of the closure. You will not have access to any facilities during the period your direct debit is frozen.

I only use my membership for Aquafit classes, what are my options?

You can freeze your direct debit for the duration of the pool closure, or you can continue your membership and you will still have access to other facilities included in your membership type, including the 8 other pools within the Northumberland contract.

How do I un-freeze my membership (or direct debit) when Prudhoe Waterworld re-opens?

Prudhoe Waterworld is due to re-open in spring 2025. Your next Direct Debit will automatically be collected in March 2025 in line with the re-opening of the pool. If anything changes, we will contact you to let you know.

Will you notify me when Prudhoe Waterworld is due to re-open?

Yes, we will contact you via email and keep this page up to date with information about re-opening.

What other Places Leisure sites do I have access to?

Below is a list of our sites located within Northumberland that offer swimming. These facilities are included within Swim & Premium memberships at no extra cost for the duration of the closure.

Swimming lesson participants can also use their free swimming benefit at the below sites.

Premium members also have access to the Gym and Classes at Newbiggin Sports and Community Hub.
