Hot yoga
Find your zen in our sultry studio, heated to 35-37 degrees centigrade to warm the body, stimulate blood flow and increase flexibility.
Immerse yourself in this calming, subtropical environment where you will feel your stresses begin to melt away. Our experienced instructors will guide you through this physically stimulating, intentionally mindful form of yoga. Emerge feeling mentally as well as physically refreshed and energized.
We also offer Warm Yoga sessions, with the studio heated to a cooler 28-30 degrees centigrade, making it a great starting point for beginners.
What is hot yoga?
Hot Yoga is a form of yoga performed in a very warm and humid studio, intended to mimic the subtropical climate of India. At Places Leisure Camberley, we will keep the temperature between 35 and 37 degrees centigrade, in line with current Government and World Health Organization guidelines.
Classes will range from following a set sequence of static poses, to more fluid Vinyasa flow classes and soft Yin classes. The postures require lengthy, forceful and sustained contractions of all major muscle groups. The demanding nature of the poses and the heat are designed to raise your heart rate and exercise your body.
What are the benefits of Hot Yoga?
Cardiovascular health: Exercising in the heat increases your heart rate and makes the body work harder, so a Hot Yoga class will be more strenuous for the body than a similar class done at a lower temperature.
Flexibility: The heated room means you will have to create less heat yourself to feel your muscles loosen up. You’ll be able to move more deeply into stretches and, over time, increase your flexibility.
Breathing: Although the heat might mean that you feel like you are working hard to catch your breath, the breathing exercises that are done over time help to increase your lung capacity and breathe better and more deeply.
The basics
- Hot Yoga classes will take place in Studio 3.
- Classes are 75 minutes
- The room is heated to between 35-37 degrees centigrade to mimic a subtropical feel. In line with current Government guidance, humidity levels will be kept on the lower end to ensure everyone’s safety. Please be mindful that the room will feel hot.
- Minimum age for class attendance is 16 years of age.
Contraindications
Be sure to check with your GP before trying Hot Yoga, especially if you have any health concerns or if you are pregnant.
Particular care should be taken with individuals who have:
- Heart disease
- Problems with dehydration
- Heat intolerance
- A history of a heat-related illness (such as heatstroke)
Good to know before you flow
- We ask that all participants ensure that they hydrate in the 24 hours before and for an additional 12 hours after the class.
- Participants may find it useful to not eat in the two hours before class, or to have no more than a light snack.
- Please plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes before class in order to let your body acclimatize to the heat.
- We encourage you to bring your own mat, towel, water bottle and accessories, as studio supplies are limited.
- We encourage participants to wear lightweight, breathable and/or loose-fitting activewear for their class.
- For the safety of you and others in the studio room, late entry is not permitted under any circumstances.
Studio doors will remain closed throughout the session in order to retain the integrity of the environment and Hot Yoga experience.
Meet our hot yoga instructors
We have a fantastic team of instructors for our Hot Yoga sessions at Places Leisure Camberley. Find out a bit more about them and which sessions they teach below.
Bettina Albrecht
“My Hot Yoga class will be great for building strength and the 35–37-degree heat will help us push our flexibility to the next level, further than we can in a normal class. As well as the physical benefits there are many mental health benefits too, Hot Yoga can help reduce stress and can lead to significant improvements in your sleep.
I love to make my classes flow so whether I sequence a Hatha or a Vinyasa class, I will aim to lead our movement by our breath transitioning fluidly between poses. I will always welcome you to do as much or as little as you can in the class, my classes are inclusive to a variety of levels, and I will adapt the class for your needs where I can.”
Bettina started her love for yoga with inversions and will enjoy stripping them back to basics for you. Over the years, Bettina has developed a love of teaching beginners because it gives her the greatest sense of achievement. As well as teaching Hot Yoga, Bettina is trained in Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and SUP Yoga.
Bettina teaches Warm Yoga at Places Leisure Camberley on Mondays at 6.30pm and Hot Yoga on Wednesdays at 7.15pm.
Trijana Gurung
“My classes combine 75 minutes of open-eye meditation, focusing on mindset, improved flexibility, building strength, burning calories and reducing stress – a full mind & body workout.
We’ll incorporate strong, dynamic flows for those who fancy a bit of a challenge. My goal is to lead and teach people through their own yoga journey by giving you vision and belief of where your mind and body can go – while having lots of fun along the way!”
Trijana’s journey with yoga began in 2011 when she attended her first Hot Yoga class for a quick fix to lose weight. It was not love at first sight, however, after a month of regular practice, she had completely and utterly fallen in love. She learned the importance of your breath and how it can determine your whole practice. She became stronger, fitter and less injury-prone and therefore able to perform better in her other sports. Trijana qualified as a Yoga Teacher in 2017 and has never looked back!
Trijana teaches Hot Yoga at Places Leisure Camberley on Saturdays at 9.00am.
Lizzie Petrie
“I combine elements of ‘slow and flow’ asana movement aimed at all those wishing to have a clearer understanding of the foundation of yoga. I will instruct the fundamental principles required to connect with the body and mind in a nurturing, safe and peaceful environment seeing how fluid adaptable sequences join with ease. Yoga is about working within your own limitations.
I have a gentle teaching approach, which encourages progression without enforcement, moving intuitively, stretching, and strengthening. I will offer challenges with suitable adaptations, motivating to energise the class, leading into a complete state of relaxation.“
A former dancer and professional performer, Lizzie began her instruction studying the physical form and body alignment through Bowen Therapy and Alexander Technique, which included yoga and Pilates for strengthening and conditioning.
After graduation, she emigrated to Australia, where she participated in assorted styles of yoga led by international teachers and first experienced heated yoga studio spaces. Encouraged by her mentors, Lizzie travelled to Bali, Indonesia where she qualified as an accredited Yoga Alliance instructor, with additional hours of training to allow her to instruct children and teenagers, as well as pre and postnatal clients.
After returning to the UK, Lizzie focused on the therapeutic and psychological links of the body and mind as one and gained further qualifications as a Communications Coach, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming Master Practitioner with a certified (INEMLA) licence. Lizzie has also studied ayurvedic nutrition and reiki healing. She was the principal teacher at FS Hot Yoga Studio before moving back to Hampshire and is delighted to be joining the PLC Hot Yoga team in Camberley as a cover Hot Yoga instructor. To read more about Lizzie’s yoga experience her website is: www.puredivinewellness.com

Emeshe Coop
“In this meditative movement class, we will explore asanas with a focus on self-awareness and introspection - we’ll ground, balance, wake up, and warm. Through focusing on your own energy and moving into slow flowing yoga we’ll explore transitions and movement between poses, flowing with strength and ease, ending in deep relaxation to release and soften the body – getting you ready to handle any bumps in the week ahead with a calm and balanced mind.”
Emeshe’s yoga classes combine elements that strengthen the body with mindfulness that nourishes the mind, keeping the two in balance. Inspired by the graceful, elegant strength of ashtanga, she mixes dynamic sequences with feel-good flows lead by the breath – always thriving to inspire that practice makes progress, not perfect.
Emeshe teaches Hot Yoga at Places Leisure Camberley on Sundays at 7.30am and Thursdays at 5.30pm.
Patricia Paisis-Oakwell
“I teach Freestyle Yoga which gives me the freedom to vary the pace and focus of the class. My sequences include mobility and rehabilitation exercises to strengthen and support our movements and is inclusive for all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities.
I teach in a way that allows you to connect with your own body and how it moves and feels in the poses. Adaptions and modifications are offered so all levels will come out of the class feeling like they are achieving their own goals for their practice. It’s hot, sweaty, and challenging but really rewarding!”
Patricia started her yoga journey 30 years ago, and while she has tried numerous varieties and styles of yoga around the world she is drawn to the more active styles.
A qualified Hot Yoga instructor, Patricia is also certified to teach Freestyle Yoga and Sculpt Yoga, as well as Freestyle Fitness and advanced Freestyle Fitness Yoga. She is always studying and improving her knowledge and is on course to add several other Yoga styles to my resume. Patricia is also a qualified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor and has additional qualifications in training adolescents and older persons.
