At Places Leisure, we are dedicated to tailoring our memberships, courses, and sessions to meet the needs of the local community. It is important to us that members are made to feel welcome and comfortable when visiting our sites, and our friendly and experienced staff are always on hand to help with any questions you may have.
We run the following sessions at various Places Leisure Centres in East Suffolk:
Sporting memories
Felixstowe Leisure Centre
In partnership with charity Sporting Memories, this session promises a welcoming environment, aiming to support those aged 50+ including those living with dementia, depression or facing isolation and loneliness to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. Different activities are provided each week ranging from guest speakers to chair based exercise sessions.

New Age Kurling
at Felixstowe Leisure Centre
Enjoy this adapted version of the Winter Olympic sport of Ice Curling, only without the ice and all of that frantic sweeping! This session is aimed at anyone 55+ or anyone living with a long-term health condition. Make new friends and gain support from others.
- Mondays to 11:30am - 1pm
- £4 per session
Strength and Balance
at Felixstowe, Deben and Leiston Leisure Centre
12 weeks of chair-based exercise funded in partnership with East Suffolk Council. Our trainers are all Otago qualified instructors. Otago is a fall-prevention exercise program for older adults, designed to prevent falls by strengthening muscles and improving balance.
This a referral-based programme, please see your local GP if you feel you would benefit from this exercise programme.

Feel Good Suffolk Exercise Referral
At Felixstowe, Brackenbury, Deben and Leiston Leisure Centres
A new way to support you so you can achieve your health and wellbeing goals, from quitting smoking to becoming more active. Feel Good Suffolk is a unique partnership of local councils and health colleagues working together to offer services that work for you.
We are working in partnership with Feel Good Suffolk and East Suffolk council to provide an exercise referral programme.
Back on Track for cancer patients
at Brackenbury Leisure Centre
Group exercise classes designed and tailored for anyone with a cancer diagnosis. This is a class that helps individuals meet their own goals whatever their level, ideal for:
- all fitness levels including complete beginners
- gaining confidence to get back into exercise
- regaining lost muscle, strength, balance or stability.
- Pacing yourself back into exercise before joining another activity programme
- Meeting other people in a similar situation for peer support.
Classes are free for the first 6 weeks, then £3 per class thereafter. Tuesdays 1.30pm - 2.30pm
