We're dedicated to helping our members stay active in whatever way suits them. That's why we've developed a comprehensive plan to ensure we can provide you with the support you need.
We offer a range of memberships to suit you, depending on your needs, from Swim Only deals to our all-encompassing Premium Plus membership.
Alternatively, we also welcome day visitors - find out how to create your free Places membership and claim your day pass.
Pay as you go
We also welcome day visitors to our gym and fitness facilities, with gym passes available. To purchase your gym pass, you will first need to create a free Places membership. You can then book onto the sessions as you wish.

Gym support
To familiarise you with the gym and to get to know your goals we'd like to offer you a short group introduction to the gym. This can be booked with a member of the team when you join or at a later date via our website.
One-to-one support sessions can be booked with a member of the gym team. The sessions last 45 minutes and are chargeable.
You are also welcome to book one free 15 minute programme review a month, just speak to a member of our team.
Our gyms are not always manned, but rest assured support is never far away. Our equipment is labelled with QR codes, which when scanned, provide you a video tutorial.

Gym etiquette
We want everyone's time in our gym to be as comfortable as possible, so we ask all visitors to remember the below when using the facilities.
- Please help us keep the gym clean by wiping down equipment after use
- Wear appropriate footwear for the activity you're doing
- Lifting barefoot or in socks is permitted on lifting platforms only
- Make use of our lockers for bags
- Our gym's aren't always manned, so if you require assistance or support when there are no team members on the gym floor, please visit our friendly reception team
- In case of emergency, push the assistance alarm
- 1 adult (18 years+) can attend with up to four Junior members and is responsible for the Junior member's conduct
- During busy times, please be mindful of the length of time you spend on each piece of equipment to allow other gym users to complete their workout
- Unload all weights from bars and plate-loaded machines after use
- Put all equipment away after use

Classes at Alfreton Leisure Centre
We operate a range of fitness classes at our centre, both in and out of the pool. Take a look at some of the types of activities we've got for you:
Group cycling
Ride like the wind with our group cycling classes. You’ll feel like you’ve had a workout with one of these sessions.
Studio classes
Offering a range of intensities from gentle and relaxing to a more intensive workout, you’ll be able to find a class that suits you.
Les Mills classes
Les Mills classes are enjoyed all over the world and include Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Balance, Body Attack and Sh’bam.
Pool classes
Classes range from gentle to high impact so you can work hard and enjoy the support of the pool improving strength and fitness.

Cancer Rehab
Our Cancer Rehab course is a 12-week exercise program for individuals who have been affected by cancer and the symptoms that follow before or after diagnosis. With a qualified cancer rehab instructor, individuals will be led on a physical recovery journey and taught how to improve, retain or regain their fitness, pre or post treatment.
Cancer Rehab Alfreton Leisure Centre
Our Cancer Rehab course is a 12-week exercise program for individuals who have been affected by cancer and the symptoms that follow before or after diagnosis. With a qualified cancer rehab instructor, individuals will be led on a physical recovery journey and taught how to improve, retain or regain their fitness, pre or post treatment.
What can I expect?
The course will be 12-weeks long and 1 hours classes will occur every week. The classes will be adapted weekly to suit individuals changing needs and to ensure that our classes are inclusive to everyone partaking in the course.
Classes will also include a gentle warm up and cool down to ensure maximum results are achieved. Individuals can sit out at any point if feeling unwell or overwhelmed.
After the class, participants will have the option to stay and have a hot beverage or use the time to discuss any concerns and offer feedback. We are dedicated to making this course a safe space for likeminded individuals to share their experiences and feel supported by others in similar situations.

Simply consult your GP and if you meet the eligibility criteria, they can refer you to your preferred Places Leisure centre

Accessibility in the gym
Accessibility is important to us at Alfreton Leisure Centre. As such we offer a range of equipment for wheelchair users, or people with limited mobility that has adjustable settings and can be used safely with appropriate support.

Our friendly gym team are here to help. If you are interested in using the gym please do not hesitate to Contact Us. We’ll book you in for an appointment with a member of the team who can show you around the gym and work out a programme that meets your needs.
Our gym offers a range of cardio and resistance machines which can be adapted for wheelchair users to train efficiently.
We also have functional training equipment including kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands, slam ball, medicine balls, battle ropes and an infinity wall that can be incorporated to provide a more varied workout.

We're proud to provide a number of pieces of equipment that can be adapted for wheelchair users, including:

- Technogym shoulder press
- Technogym cable crossover
- Technogym arm bike
- Concept 5 infinity wall

In addition to the above, our gym is home to a number of other machines that can be used by people who are able to transfer into a chair, or those with less severe mobility issues:

GP referral
If you have suffered an illness or recently had an operation our GP referral sessions will help you get back into fitness. You’ll need a ‘prescription to exercise’ from your doctor to get started and our instructors will support you through your sessions.

We also offer a range of activities and clubs for our older adult members and visitors at Alfreton Leisure Centre.

Activity Friends
Drop in badminton and table tennis sessions to help you meet likeminded friends and gain new hobbies

Indoor bowls
We will be operating with:
- No membership or subscription fee required
- Wide selection of leagues (mornings and evenings)
- New teams welcome
- Casual block booking sessions available
- Club representative teams in County and national competitions

- Help and support available from our Del and his team We look forward to welcoming new Bowlers and our returning customers
More information
We have an indoor bowls hall so you can book a rink or come along to our Bowls Club sessions for a social and fun sporting activity.
This recently refurbished hall, costing upwards of £100,000 to renovate, includes a new environmentally friendly lighting scheme, new performance carpet and underlay, state of the art scoreboard and rink end modules.
If you're new to the sport, we have coaching available for beginners, too!
Inside the Bowls hall, we have a fully licensed bar with drinks and snacks available while you play.

Forever Active classes
A low impact keep fit class with an extended warm up to maintain and improve co-ordination, flexibility, strength and fitness.
Session times and prices:
- Monday 10.15am - 11.00am
- Thursday 1.45pm - 2.30pm
- Friday 12.30pm - 1.15pm

Junior fitness
We believe a physically active child is much more likely to become a physically active adult. We run the following supervised sessions for children aged 11-15 years to attend:
- Monday - Friday - 4.00pm - 5.00pm
- Saturday - Sunday 11.00am - 12.00pm
We also run parent or guardian supervised sessions (must be 18+) for you to attend:
- Monday - Tuesday - 6.30am - 6.00pm
- Wednesday - Friday - 6.30am - 9.00pm
- Saturday - Sunday - 8.00am - 5.30pm
All junior gym users must complete a group introduction before using the gym independently. These sessions last 30 minutes and can be booked with a member of our team when joining. Junior gym introduction are run at the following times:
- Wednesday & Friday - 4.30 - 5pm
- Saturday & Sunday - 11.30 - 12.00pm
Pre-booking is recommended.

Big sister Project
Big Sister helps girls aged 9-15 in target areas feel ‘sport ready’ by recruiting a network of ‘big sisters’ to empower and enable girls to enjoy sport, exercise, and physical activity during puberty.
As part of our commitment to helping girls get into activity we are offering a free membership to girls who meet the eligibility criteria*, or a 50% discounted membership for all other girls, which includes:
- After initial gym induction, unlimited access to the gym at any time when accompanied by an adult aged 18+
- Unlimited swimming
- We Move classes available at Ripley Leisure Centre and William Gregg VC Leisure Centre
- Friendly on-site team, to support you through your activity
- Free access to Places Leisure App and Virtual Studio which includes a Big Sister channel
