What is Aquafit?
Here’s the rundown on one of our favourite aqua classes!
What is Aquafit like?
Aquafit is a fun, low-impact aqua class led by our expert instructors. It combines the cardiovascular and flexibility exercises you’d find in a typical aerobics workout - with the added bonus of being in the pool! Plus, you can mix in some strength training using equipment like aqua dumbbells for an extra challenge.
Aquafit classes usually last for 45 minutes and are held in a group setting, meaning you’ll have plenty of people around you to keep you motivated and moving! You don’t need to be a strong swimmer either, in an Aquafit class you’re able to move at your own pace while you enjoy lunging, jumping, and jogging about in the water.

What do I need for an Aquafit class?
Getting started with an aqua class is simple! Just bring along your swimming costume - and a swim hat if you prefer to wear one. Don’t forget a bottle of water too, even though you’ll be in the pool, you’ll still be working up a sweat! Keeping hydrated is a vital component when you’re doing any kind of exercise to aid recovery and prevent dehydration.
The benefits of Aquafit
Now on to the good stuff that Aquafit can bring!
It’s for everyone
One of the key benefits of Aquafit is that it’s accessible to so many people, no matter your fitness level or swimming ability. It’s a class that can be easily modified too, helping you do things your way!
The easy modifications are also great news for people who are using aqua aerobics classes to recover from an injury.
Low-impact exercise
Want to opt for a low-impact, full body workout that will look after your joints and bones? Then Aquafit is for you! The water supports you, helping movements have little to no impact on your body. Aqua aerobics classes are great for people returning to exercise for the first time in a while, pregnant people, or those with long term health conditions that affect weight-bearing joints and movement.
Making fitness fun
A key factor to leading an active life is to find an exercise you enjoy and do it your way. You’re more likely to stick to keeping fit if you’re having fun! The upbeat music and supportive teachers in our Aquafit classes create a feel-good atmosphere that will leave you coming back and wanting more.
Improved mental wellbeing
Exercise releases endorphins (our happy hormones) which have been proven to benefit mental wellbeing, and exercising regularly can also lift our mood and help you to manage stress better. Being in water can provide additional mental wellbeing benefits that you can’t find on land too! The sound of water can be particularly calming as well, while the motion of the water can have a meditative effect.
What are some other aqua aerobics classes?
We offer a couple of other aqua aerobics classes at a number of our centres, one of them being Aquajog. This class offers lots of the benefits of running, just in the water! It’s a great way to help you maintain good cardiovascular fitness and running form, but with less impact on your body. We also offer Aqua Zumba, think of it as a pool party which blends high-energy Zumba moves with low-impact aqua fitness!
