The health benefits of badminton

One sport, many benefits!

Want to switch up your regular fitness routine and try out a sport? Badminton is a fantastic option. It’s no wonder Badminton England calls it the nation’s favourite racket sport!

What are the benefits?

It's a total body workout

The variety of movements in badminton makes it a great cardio option that works your whole body! Lunge, run, reach, hit, and dive as you engage your hamstrings, quads, calves, biceps, and core.

It also counts as a moderate intensity activity, which is great news for your heart health too, and it’s a fantastic activity to factor into the NHS’ recommended minimum 150 minutes a week.

Gives an opportunity to socialise

You can easily use badminton as a chance to catch up with friends, family, and teammates. Many of our courts are available to book throughout the day, evenings, and on weekends, meaning you and others you play with can enjoy badminton at a time that suits your schedules!

There are lots of advantages to making your workouts more social, both for your physical and mental health. You can learn more about them here.

A family-friendly activity

Badminton is an easy activity to pick up and learn for all ages, including children, making it a great sport for families to get stuck into together!

By bringing children to badminton sessions, they can learn more about how staying active contributes to a healthy lifestyle (it’s proven to improve their concentration and regulate their mood!), while having that all-important time away from screens.

What do I need to bring?

Don’t worry about equipment, we have rackets and shuttlecocks for hire*. All you need to bring is some trainers, some comfortable workout clothes, and your best shot!

Like in any sport, you’ll work up a sweat during badminton, so make sure you bring plenty of water to your session so that you can stay hydrated throughout.

How can I book?

We have courts across a number of our centres up and down the country that proudly host badminton. Whether you play competitively or socially, we’ve got a place for you.

All you need to do is find your centre’s timetable, click the ‘Sports’ button, find a Badminton timeslot that works for your schedule, and then book. Remember that making and managing your sessions can be done on our app too!
