The cardiovascular benefits of swimming
Swim to your heart’s content!
We know that swimming can benefit many aspects of our wellbeing, but it can be particularly good for your heart health.
Like many forms of aerobic exercise (cardio), swimming allows the heart to become stronger and helps your lungs become more efficient. The cardiovascular benefits stay long after you get out of the pool too! Swimming has also been linked to lowering your heart rate to a healthy level and helping your circulation.
According to Swim England, swimming for half an hour for a minimum of three times a week can lower blood pressure and help you maintain control over your cholesterol levels. Exercise really can be the best medicine!
Outside of its physical benefits, we love swimming for a number of reasons. Swimming is a great way to meet new people who enjoy staying active in a similar way to you in a friendly environment. Getting involved in a group swimming session or going for a swim with somebody can make you feel part of a community and boost your spirits!
Thanks to our fully qualified lifeguards, our pools are a safe space to relax, train, and stay healthy too. Our lifeguards take pride in their role and have an extensive water safety knowledge that you can be reassured by.
We believe that everybody should be able to explore which types of exercise work for them, including swimming. That’s why at our pools, we offer different sessions to give people a feel for what they prefer.
Why not start with our Just Swim sessions? Here, you can go at your own pace and chat to other swimmers in a relaxed environment. If you want to take things up a notch, our Lane Swimming sessions could be a great option.
If you have a heart condition, we advise that you seek advice from your GP before taking up swimming, each person’s condition is different!
